Dentists in Mexico
Have your dental work done in Mexico and you might save enough to pay for your entire vacation
With the rising cost of dental care in the US and Canada, many people are headed south to find a dentist.
Some just go to the border cities such as Tijuana or Acuna (on the border with Del Rio, Texas) but others make a vacation
out of it. The prices are so much cheaper that you can go on a 2 week vacation and still end up saving money.
Here are some sample prices for dentists along the border:
Denture set $650.00
Root canals $250.00
Partial $250.00
Porcelain crowns $220.00
Porcelain fillings $50.00 to $75.00
Cleanings $30.00
Extractions $40.00 (except for wisdom teeth)
Bonding $75.00
Teeth whitening $200.00
The prices
for dental work is even cheaper as you head south - almost half the price.
People might wonder about the sanitary conditions since Mexico is not known to be the cleanest country in the world. Well,
they vary. Shop around. Another tip is don't wait until the last minute (ie the day before you fly home) to have your work
done. Although they are generally reliable, it is still best to leave a little leeway, especially in small towns where they
may have to go to larger cities to get supplies.
Along the border mosts of the dentists speak English. Further south their vocabulary might consist of
'open' and 'rinse' but somehow people manage to communicate. If you dentist is not fluent in English, keep it simple. For example
say "How much?" not "What's the damage?".
To have your dental work done in Mexico is a decision that only you can make, but for many people these
days the choice is Mexico or not at all.
