Currently experiencing a serious PR crisis due to well-publicized “drug wars,†Rosarito boomed in the late 20th century as a tourist town for Southern California revelers. Many snowbirds and retires have homes or vacation homes here; others come down annually for the Rosarito--Ensenada bike ride, spring break, or just a week or weekend or partying and shopping. Online bulletin boards indicate that most foreigners living here feel reasonably safe, and visitors bold enough to come rarely see any signs of conflict.
