A planned resort of several dozen highrise hotels, Nuevo Vallarta is situated just north of the Amecas River, in southern Nayarit. Sharing Banderas Bay with Puerto Vallarta, this beach resort has mainly all-inclusive hotels and a growing number of other diversions to keep vacationers happy. Some residential neighborhoods are also being developed.
