Tijuana is a large, fairly grimy city of 2.5 to 4 million, adjacent to San Diego, CA




Swimming Head south to many Pacific beaches, or use hotel pool

SurfingSouth of town are popular surf spots like K-38 but the water is kind of polluted in most places. The water is ice-cold - colder than So Cal due to an Alaskan current.

WalkingPedestrian friendly. Many people walk across the border to shop.

GolfCountry club in town, Real del Mar (20 km/12 mi S of town)

Good FoodMany good restaurants from inexpensive to elegant

ArtExhibitions and performances at TJ Cultural Center, close to the border

Club SceneClubs especially popular with under-21-US crowd. Many boisterous bars along Revolucion Blvd., downtown tourist area.

MuseumsExcellent museum of regional history, interactive, at cultural center

HandicraftsThe tourist district on Revolution has cheap handicrafts from all over Mexico.

ShoppingIn addition to Calle Revolution, rife with touts, try Plaza Rio Tijuana and adjacent shopping centers

MoviesPlenty of English-language films, but spread out in this big city

Sporting EventsGreyhound racing and bullfights (boo!), charreadas (Mexi riding exhibitions) some weekends

DesertNot in the desert, of course, but a dry semi-desert climate

OceanPlayas de Tijuana is the beach area of the city; half hour from Rosarito Beach
