Michoacan State, in central Mexico, borders the Pacific Ocean but is best known for its many fine handcrafts for sale, including excellent ceramics and woven goods. Among its most popular tourist destinations are the inland capital, Morelia, and the nearby artisan towns around Lake Patzcuaro. Throughout the state are many colonial structures, and in the east, several forested areas where Monarch butterflies come every year to reproduce.
