Now industrial, Queretaro was founded in 1531 by the Spanish and its historic center retains much of its original charm, with many ornate churches, open-air plazas and museums. Located in Mexico’s fertile Bajio region, it is nearby other lovely colonial cities, including San Luis Potosi, San Miguel de Allende, and Guanajuato.
