Spanish: Rosca De Reyes

Type: Food

Meaning: cake to eat on the Epiphany

(The rosca de reyes is eaten with the extended family on January 6, the Epiphany. In Spanish this holiday is called Día de los Reyes Magos in honor of the Wise Men who, according to the Bible, visited the baby Jesus that day. This delicious ring-shaped cake is made with flour, eggs, yeast, candied fruit, almonds and a splash of rum. Inside the cake are hidden one or more tiny plastic Jesus figures. The guests who find in their slice of cake one of the plastic figurines must host the tamale party for the guests on Candlemas, February 2.)
