Type: Food -- Beverages
Meaning: Derived from the Aztec word for water, atole is a thick corn-based drink, sweetened and served warm, that is a staple of rural Mexico and loved by city dwellers, too. It may be flavored with chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla, or other flavorings, or just plain.
Los aztecas hacían el atole con masa caliente condimentada con miel de abeja, cacao, y chile. (The Aztecs made atole with corn gruel flavored with honey, cacao, and chile.)
