Tampico: Stretching between the southern tip of Texas in the north and Veracruz state in the south, Tamaulipas borders the Gulf of Mexico. Little visited by foreign tourists, it contains a wealth of different ecosystems---including cloud forests, tropical, evergreen and pine-oak forests, in el Cielo Biosphere Reserve, a buffer against development and important aquifer. In the extreme south, Tampico is one of Mexico’s most important seaports.
