Santa Rosalia: After San Ignacio, Highway 1 hits the Gulf of California at Santa Rosalia, a mining town established by the French. Two-story wooden structures with small porches characterize the town, which looks different than anywhere else in Mexico. It’s unusual church was designed by Gustave Eiffel and shipped in pieces to the peninsula. This is a pleasant stop-over for drivers en route to Los Cabos or the many pretty beaches of Baja California Sur.
