A couple of hours north of Los Cabos, La Paz is capital of Baja California Sur. Here you'll find the university, symphony and other cultural offerings. Founded as a mission town by the Jesuits in the early 19th century, La Paz is located on the Gulf of California. Miles of sandy beaches and offshore islands provide put-in points for kayakers, and there is good diving in the area as well.
