The Guru Difference Mexico Guru is a website created by two female Mexico lovers, a travel writer and a webmaster. We live in Mexico and have been exploring the country, between the two of us, for more than 50 years! Unlike many travel sites these days, we actually visit the places we write about. Stick with the Guru for the real scoop.

Food doesn’t have to be expensive to be tasty and healthful, nor does the dining experience have to be long and drawn out. Locals in Huatulco (including several busy but health-conscious businesspeople we know) recommended Chava’s Chicken for a quick and delicious meal that’s economical, too.
Although it’s real name is Pollo Imperial, most folks call it Pollos de Chava or Chava’s Chicken; the owner’s name is Chava. For about 50 pesos (US$5), get half a roast chicken served with yummy bean soup, a huge basket of tortillas, salsa verde, and guacamole. For a whole chicken, at twice the price, you get twice the amount of side dishes, too. Drinks available are canned soft drinks, beer, lemonade or other homemade fruit drinks (aguas frescas).
There are a few other items on the menu like pork or beef, but as its name implies, chicken is king at this family-owned-and-operated hole-in-the-wall in the heart of La Crucecita. See the chicken grilling on a multi-layered spit overlooking the street near the town market. The intoxicating smell lures hungry travelers and locals from blocks away.
