With its own airstrip, this mountain town has a healthy gringo population but nonetheless feels entirely Mexican. At 432 meters (1,417 feet) above sea level, the air is hot and dry most of the year, in fact, Alamos’s website (www.alamosmexico.com) boasts 360 days of sunshine per year. The coolest months are October through mid-April. In summer, monsoon conditions sometimes prevail, bringing short bursts of heavy rain and sometimes exciting electrical storms. At that time of year you can expect daytime temperatures of 85 to 95 degrees, with pleasant evenings typically ranging between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit. During the winter, daytime temps dip to the 70s, with nights in the 50s or 60s. There may be light rainfall also December and January, but in this desert-mountain climate, it is quite well received.
