Ajijic Profile

A small artists and retirement community on the shores of Lake Chapala with lots of ex-pats. Great place to retire due to the friendliness of the other ex-pats and the variety of activities.




Swimming There hot springs about 10 miles away.

FishingFishing on the lake is possible.

WalkingA wonderful village to walk around in. Not much traffic on most side streets.

KayakingCan rent kayaks and go out on the lake

SailingThe lake provides a good opportunity for sailing but it is rare to see sailboats.

Good FoodYou won't find much Mexican food in Ajijic but you will find just about everything else from Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Eastern European and Continental. Strongly recommend Pedro's Gourmet.

ArtAjijic is an art colony.

Club SceneLots of live entertainment but more for the older crowd - flamenco quitar etc.

ReadingEnglish library at the Chapala Society.

SupermarketMany supermarkets.

Spanish SchoolNo schools, but lots of people who teach Spanish everywhere.

ShoppingThey have everything.

MoviesA tri-plex on the main drag always has at least one movie in English.

ColonialSettled by the Spaniard - many colonial buildings.

LakeLake Chapala - 50 miles long and 20 miles wide

LuxuriousThere are many luxorious homes in Ajijic.

WinterCool and wonderful - around 75 in the daytime - cool at night.

Buy/Rent HouseMany luxorious houses for sale and good deals on rentals.

WeatherAjijic is said to have the second best climate in the world. Winters are 65 to 80 and cool at night. It heats up in May and June but when the rain starts in July and August it cools down again. Good for all seasons.
